Dino Melaye Resigns from PDP, Cites Leadership FailureFormer Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has officially parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s inability to provide credible leadership as the key reason for his exit.In a letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede (Ijumu LGA, Kogi State), Melaye made his resignation public via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” he wrote.

According to Melaye, his decision came after what he described as a deep reflection on the current state of the party. He expressed disappointment in PDP’s inability to address the nation’s pressing issues or inspire meaningful change.“The PDP lacks the potency and capacity to rescue Nigerians from the political rot that continues to weaken our nation,” he stated. “In good conscience, I can no longer participate in or support its agenda.”Melaye, who was the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 Kogi election, emphasized that his departure was based on serious introspection and not taken lightly. His exit adds to the growing list of high-profile figures rethinking their political alliances ahead of 2027. What’s next for Dino Melaye? Only time will tell.
